SUMMARY:
The Communications Associate is responsible for implementing
communications strategies to advance the objectives of two of the
organization’s conservation campaigns. This is an exciting opportunity
for a talented, high energy professional who is interested in making a
difference in the field of conservation. The Communications Associate
reports to the National Communications Director.
This position is based in Washington, DC.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Implement communications plans for two conservation campaigns. Work
closely with conservation staff to identify and seize media and
communications opportunities. Work with a national team of
communications professionals to coordinate strategy, set goals, and
prioritize efforts. Collaborate with communications colleagues in
Washington, DC and in the regions. Write and edit materials,
including press releases, press statements, talking points, pitch memos,
web content, email action alerts, newsletter content, fact sheets, and
other publications. Assist conservation staff in creation of
presentations and speeches, and in preparing for news interviews.
Organize media events. Cultivate relationships with key reporters.
Track and report results for each campaign, and recommend shifts in
tactics to increase results. Maintain calendar of media opportunities
and events. Maintain press lists. Save press clips.
Participate in conservation campaign meetings and communications team
meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree and 2-3 years in communications, media relations or
similar experience, preferably in conservation, advocacy, or political
campaigns. Exceptional communication, writing and organizational
skills. Ability to manage multiple projects in fast-paced,
deadline-driven environment. Personal commitment to the American Rivers
mission.

Salary
